Football Contracts

Football is totally different when it comes to money and length of contracts in comparision to baseball.  Mostly because in football the lifespan is shorter.  The game is to violent and it takes to much of a toll on your body to play at a all star level for 10 plus years.  Very few exceptions.

Certain positions especially like the Running Back.  It is said that you have about 5 years tops of your best years in that position and after that you slow down.  Which is true, the numbers prove it.  Some positions do deserve a lot of money like the Quarter Backs.  They get paid the most depending on who you are and they do play the most important position.

Drew Brees- 5 years 100 million(60 million guaranteed)
I have an issue with rookie contracts.  Some of the rookie players get 40 million guaranteed or 50.  They have NOT PLAYED ONE professional game and they already guaranteed to make so much money.  Do not agree with that one bit!

Generally there is a lot of times nfl players get hurt and really are not able to fulfill their contract. Which makes everything a huge risk. Huge example is Michael Vick, great talent but does not play enough games to be worth 100 million dollars. He is injury prone!

OPINIONS:
-My own opinion on this is the money in baseball is way to much.  I also feel long term contracts are not a good idea because players do get old and slow down and are not as productive.  10 year contracts can go into a players late 30s or even 40s.  You CAN'T expect a player that age to be worth over 20 million.  They just can't produce the same as they did when in their prime.  Bascially is going to be getting overpaid.  I already feel Alex is being overpaid now, he is already passed his prime and is not worth 27 million a year now.  Yet the Yankees still give him that money.

I feel football contracts should not give as much guaranteed money because of high injury risk in this violent sport.

Basketball contracts are the ones that I have the least amount of problem with.  They have a max amount of money someone can get.  And yes there are those who get big contracts that dont deserve it but that will happen always in sports. Teams pay a player lots of money because of ONE great year then after that they just play decent.  It happens sadly.

Other opinions

-"I feel athletes do get paid to much money, I understand the fact they they play so many games, have pressure on them and a spot light on them but there are people that get paid less that are more important that should get paid more like doctors and teachers".

Money in Baseball

The amount of money professional athletes make is extremely shocking sometimes! Baseball contracts through history have been the biggest because they have the most long term deals.  Deals that last as long as 10 years.

Alex Rodriguez is the highest paid professional baseball player at the moment. His contract is 10 years 275 million dollars. 27 million per year for the next 10 years! Which also equates to more than 1 million per game. This is not including endorsements or other sources of income.

Another huge money contract in baseball is for Albert Pujols. He is making 240 million over the next 10 years. 24 million each year.
